Lucky stars & comfort zones
Sara Villamil | AUG 28, 2022

This past weekend, I got right out of my comfort zone and went into a tent with my son, Leo. His excitement to go camping with cousins in one last summer hurrah fuelled my motivation. We checked the weather incessantly, and although rain and storms were forecasted, we remained hopeful as it kept changing and improving. After all, the campsite was only 30-minutes from our front door.
Friday night and most of Saturday, we had the best time. Just after lunch, my brother-in-law (now my most trusted meteorologist) started warning us about an imminent storm. I hoped it would pass quickly and unremarkably, so I decided we could leave our stuff at the site and return when it was all clear. We hopped in the car to head toward Calgary to wait it out. About five minutes later, a wall of hail, wind and rain barreled toward us. Just as I pulled over, we got a text message from our family, still at the campsite, saying that a huge tree had fallen on and flattened our tent. It was so heavy and large that it had to be cut up with a chainsaw to be removed. I am not about to go into any what-ifs, but I will say this was a very close call. I am thanking our lucky stars and feeling very comfortable back in my comfort zone, including the one on my mat.
I am quite stiff from all the emotion and hauling the sopping wet contents out of my chopped-up (brand new) tent. Thank goodness for yoga—the breathing, the movement, the grounding, the pause.
I hope to practice with you soon.
Love,
Sara
